Crowns
What to expect
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers and protects a damaged or weakened tooth. Think of it as a strong, protective shell that restores both the function and appearance of your tooth—so you can chew, smile, and speak with confidence.
Why Would I need a Crown?
Crowns are used to restore teeth that are likely to break or is too damaged to be corrected with a traditional filling. Crowns strengthen heavily stored teeth to prevent future fracture, can restore loss of tooth structure, improve tooth aethetics, relieve pain from any damage or fractures, properly restore the tooth after root canal treatment. When diagnosing teeth that need crowns in our office, we take intraoral photos to show you what we see so you can understand your treatment every step of the way.
What is a crown made of?
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, including porcelain, zirconia, gold, or a combination of materials. At Drangsholt Dental, we most often use tooth-colored materials to create a natural, seamless look that blends beautifully with your smile.
What to expect?
Getting a crown typically involves two appointments. At your first visit, we gently prepare the tooth, take a digital or traditional impression, and place a temporary crown to protect your tooth. At your second visit, your custom crown is fitted, adjusted, and securely bonded into place.
